On February 1st, Fukuoka Softbank 's spring training camp began at Ikume no Mori Sports Park in Miyazaki City.

Ryoya Kurihara, who was appointed as the players' association president this year, took part in batting practice under the watchful eye of manager Hiroki Kokubo. Kurihara appeared on ground with a shaved head, which was his first appearance since high school, about 11 years ago. Last season he was sidelined due to injury, but this season, as the players' association president, he hopes to complete the season with the first team without injury.

Akira Kawase, Ryuta Hirose, and Yudai Shoji worked hard on their defensive skills on the multipurpose ground. With Yuichi Honda, infield defense base running, and strategy coach, acting as the knocker, the three players handled the ball with nimble movements.

When asked about how he spent his time off in an interview, Takashi Umino said that there was "nothing in particular" he did to change his mood, but then revealed with a smile, "I had a baby, so I was taking care of him!" Regarding this season, fielder’s choice said with enthusiasm, "We're aiming to win the league championship and become the best in Japan again this year, so first of all, I'll do my best to be a part of that." He is aiming to become the starting catcher with a strong appeal.
