Pacific League: Orix 5-6 Seibu (2nd, Kyocera Dome)
On the 2nd, Seibu Lions infielder Keisuke Nakata scored his first RBI in his fourth year as a professional. It was a memorable hit in his 82nd game as a first-division player.
He started as the seventh batter and right fielder. With both teams scoreless in the second inning, with one out and runners on first and second, he caught a fastball from Soya and hit a timely doble that went just over the right field line to take the lead. "On the contrary, it makes people think I haven't scored any RBI yet, so please don't mention it..." he said with a shy smile, but added with a sigh of relief, "I was hoping to score within this season, so I'm glad."
It was a hit to repay the debt. Soya had closer hitless in three At Bat hit in the April 16th game against Orix (Kyocera Dome) when he started as the ninth batter and second baseman, but he said, "I've given up in a good way. The last time we played, I was completely helpless and closer, so I just thought about swinging with all my might." His simple thinking led to results.
Nakata joined Softbank as the 14th pick in the 2021 development draft from Fukuoka University. He was registered as a regular player before the start of last season, but was notified during the offseason that he was no longer needed, and joined Seibu as a development player this season. He was promoted to a regular player on March 25th before the start of the season, and recorded his first hit since joining Seibu in a game against Chunichi on June 13th (Belluna D).
