Saitama Seibu Lions 's first arch in an external game was fired by rookie Shun Akiyama.

Akiyama played from the defense of the 4th inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run lead, Natsuo Takizawa got on base with a hit, and Akiyama followed with a sharp swing from the third ball to swing the opponent's right-hander. "I hit it straight, and I was sure it was home run the moment I hit it," he said, and the ball went to the light stand. With these two runs, they extended their lead to 5-1.
