◆ Pacific League Rakuten 8-3 Nippon-Ham (23rd, ES CON FIELD)
Nippon-Ham catcher Kengo Yoshida hit his third solo home run over the right field fence in the seventh inning. With two outs and no runner on base, he sent a 143 km/h fastball from Rakuten starter Takinaka to the right field bullpen.
He was the fifth batter and catcher and was starting line-up for the first time in the starting lineup. Although he was unable to lead pitcher Ruei-Yang Gu Lin to a win in his debut game, he got some revenge with his bat.
This marks his third consecutive hit to the right field bullpen since his first professional hit on the 2nd of this month. Manager Tsuyoshi Shinjo commented, "But Yoshida-kun, I thought he was Ochiai-san."
When asked why he had Yoshida wear the mask in Furubayashi's debut game, he explained, "He has good pitching and is good at catching one-bounce balls, and I think he puts in more effort, so I tried it out. In the end, if we had gotten a double play (on a ball that was a fielding error by Kiyomiya Yuki), I think they would have been a good pair until we gave up the fourth run."
