◆ Pacific League Seibu 6-3 Softbank (5th, Mizuho PayPay Dome)
Seibu 's second-round draft pick, outfielder Seiya Watanabe (Osaka University of Commerce), recorded hit in six consecutive games to start the season, tying the team's longest streak for a rookie.
With four more runs, and still two outs and a runner on second base, he came up to bat for the fourth time. With count at 0-2, he slammed Ogata's slider, and the ball bounced high over pitcher 's head for an infield hit. Even though he tied the team record set by Tomoaki Sato in 2001, he was not complacent, saying, "Today's at-bat didn't feel right."
In his next at-bat, he pulled a 149 km/h fastball high and inside for a single to left hit, and said with emphasis, "I was finally able to make the corrections and hit a good ball, so I want to be able to start hitting my own style from an earlier stage."
