Lotte Shuta Takano pitcher made an emergency appearance with one out bases loaded in the first inning after starter Hiiragi Ishikawa was ejected by a dangerous pitch. He got Mugitani to ground out to second and Nakagawa to right to get out of the jam with no runs until the fifth, when he didn't runs until the fifth. He threw 64 pitches in 3 2/3 innings, allowing 4 hit runs.
"I went up to mound without even getting nervous. I hadn't prepared at all, and I hadn't even tied my shoelaces. I played catch for about three or four balls, and then I was told to let them do the rest (mound)," he said, looking back on his emergency appearance after the game. According to Takano, he had made an emergency appearance as the second starter was ejected for throwing a dangerous pitch in a minor league game, but this was his first time in a major league game.
When he came to the plate in the second inning, it was bases loaded with one out, but he said, "When I went up to mound, I thought it was first and third base because the electric board was still on first and third base. (Mugitani's) ground ball rolled (second baseman) and Mr. Fujioka threw home (bases loaded) and I noticed. As a result, I was able to throw the ball easily and without being overawed. I was lucky," he said, revealing that his failure to grasp the situation correctly led to his no runs pitch.
He has made two relief appearances since the start of the season with no runs. I'd like to be a starter, and I don't dislike reliever long relief appearances at all. I'm not afraid of going long. I've been used in any way I can be used, so I just have to show my ability in those situations. Whatever position I play, I give it my all.
