Morioka City Mayor Shigeru Uchidate visited the baseball team's office in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, on March 31 and submitted a request to hold a first-round game next season. In Iwate, games were held at "Kitagin Ball Park" in Morioka City in 2011 and 2013 (games in 2012 were postponed due to rain). This season, a game against Seibu was held on May 20, 2012, and the team lost 0-1. The second game was also held at the same stadium. Mayor Uchidate said, "Every year, the expectations and popularity of the citizens of Tohoku and Iwate Prefecture are getting higher and higher. I would like to somehow make Rakuten more exciting for the entire Tohoku region.
This season marks the first time the team has held a first-division regular season in all six Tohoku prefectures in the same year. President Masayuki Morii, who received the request on this day, expressed his desire to continue holding first-division regular season in the six Tohoku prefectures next season and beyond, saying, "We would like to make Tohoku our top priority."
