◆Nippon Life Insurance Central vs. Pacific League Interleague Series DeNA vs. Nippon-Ham (8th, Yokohama)
Nippon-Ham manager Tsuyoshi Shinjo, along with coaches, players and staff, gathered before practice to surprise batting coach Yagi Hiroshi on his 60th birthday.
Coach Shinjo handed me a red shirt instead of a red chanchanko, saying, "The 'god of substitute hitting' has joined the ranks of grandpa." The number was still 89, but the number on the chest was a reincarnation version of "60". The players sang Happy Birthday and took a commemorative photo.
Coach Yagi smiled and said, "I'm happy to be wearing the uniform. 60 years old is a celebration for grandpas, right? I don't want to think of myself as an old man, so I don't want to be told "60 years old, 60 years old," but I still want to stay young and healthy, so I'm glad I wore the (red) uniform. When I put on the chanchanko, I look completely different."
