"I'm just grateful that they paved the way for me to have surgery," he said, bowing in appreciation of the team's understanding. Yoshida and Udagawa, who are also right-handed relief pitchers on the team, underwent similar surgery in March.
In addition, pitcher Shumpeita Yamashita (22), who was training at the farm team, has also temporarily left the team due to poor condition of his lower back.
