After struggling in April, Fukuoka Softbank has been on a roll since May, winning four consecutive games. On May 18th, they faced Tohoku Rakuten Eagles in their third game of the series, tied at 1-1.

With a season batting average of .304, he became the first hitter from the development league to win the batting title.
