Today, November 14th (Friday), Fukuoka Softbank Akira Kawase Watch the walk-off-off hits played by the players. Manager Hiroki Kokubo also commented at the championship press conference that this was "a major turning point."
In the bottom of the ninth inning, with two outs and no runner on base, the team came back from two runs behind.
Fukuoka Softbank had a rough start to the season with a string of players sidelined. On May 2nd, during a five-game losing streak, that hit came in the sixth game against Chiba Lotte Marines. They allowed a three-run home run in the first inning, and were trailing 1-3 in the bottom of the ninth. The first two batters were struck out, putting them in a tight spot. However, consecutive hits by Akira Nakamura and Tatsuru Yanagimachi put runners on first and second, and then a timely hit by Taisei Makihara put them within one point. Then, bases loaded by Hit by Pitch loaded the bases.
Akira Kawase in his 10th year, was called in to pinch-hit. With count at 3-1, he hit a fastball from pitcher Naoya Masuda, sending it doble for a two-run double to left-center field, securing a walk-off win. The team, having ended their losing streak, went on to win five straight games. This hit led to the team's victory.
Next week, on Monday, November 17th, we will feature memorable "professional first records and milestone records." We will look back at Chiba Lotte Marines Marines player Kyuto Ueda 's "phantom" and "real" first Home Run!
