Satoshi Kuroda (50), who will be infield defense and base running coach for the first team from next season due to a transfer, joined the first team's fall practice at Belluna Dome for the first time on the 16th.
On the first day, Kuroda gave infielder practice drills. He has been watching infielder Natsuo Takizawa since he joined the team, and he has developed into a player with some of the best defense skills in the league. "At first, throw wouldn't reach first baseman, and although he was quick, he would drop the ball everywhere. He's still a bit rough around the edges, but he's gotten several times better since then," he said with a smile.
At this point, it has not been decided whether he will play first or third base, but he will also serve as a runner coach during games. He asked the players, "I want you to improve not only your speed, but also your judgment and other things like that. Frankly speaking, I don't think you can hone your base running running skills unless you play in a game, so I want you to be as conscious as possible when practicing, and really think of practice as a game."
Kuroda joined Seibu in 1992 as the fourth pick in the draft from Kobe Murano Technical High School. After retiring from active play in 2006, he worked as a team staff member before joining Seibu as a coach in 2009, and this will be his first return to the first team in three years. This season, he was in charge of developing young players as a second-team fielder coach.
