Orix Buffaloes suffered their second consecutive shutout game loss, their sixth of the season. This was their first series loss at Kyocera Dome and their first consecutive losses since Rakuten Eagles game on April 11-12 (Rakuten Eagles Mobile). They were unable to give manager Mamoru Kishida a victory on his 45th birthday.

The batting lineup was completely shut down by Nippon-Ham starting pitcher, Kitayama. They were closer scoreless through eight innings, giving up win for the second consecutive game, following their previous encounter on the 3rd (ES CON FIELD).

Pitching instead, starting pitcher Espinoza gave up a two-run homer to Reyes over the left field with two outs and a runner on first in the first inning. After that, he managed two runs in six innings, but suffered his first loss of the season. "From the second inning onward, I think I was able to rebuild well and throw tenaciously. However, because of that, I got hit by the home run in the first inning, which became a pitch I regret," he said, dejected.
