On the 28th, Softbank Hawks Baseball Club Chairman Sadaharu Oh (85) attended the first public staff meeting of the year and issued a major statement regarding the team's player development policy. "The way we've approached players up until now may have been wrong," he said, urging the team to focus on developing players' strengths rather than striving for perfection and correcting their weaknesses.
Even after recovering from an illness, his passion for baseball remains unchanged. "I caught the flu and it took me a while to recover, probably because of my age. I took a little rest, and although I'm still not perfect, I'm feeling much better," he said, revealing that he had been resting since the end of the year. However, he immediately gave a passionate speech on stage. "We want everyone to find more of the players' characteristics and develop their strengths. After all, we can't help but try to improve them overall. If there is something they specialize in, we want to develop that. A baseball player's time is short, so they can't afford to be leisurely. I want everyone to grasp the players' best points more than ever before and bring them to the forefront."
"I'll take it at a slow pace," he said, and on the first day of camp on February 1st, he plans to visit the farm facility in Chikugo, Fukuoka, rather than Miyazaki.
