Thank you very much for selecting me as the Monthly MVP. I am honestly very happy.
Lotte's Koki Yamaguchi received the 'Taiju Life Monthly MVP Award' for August on the 9th. In August, Yamaguchi went on a hitting tear, recording a .302 monthly batting average, 17 RBI, a league-leading 10 Home Runs, two walk-off hits, a streak of four consecutive games with a Home Run from the Softbank Hawks game on August 26th to the Nippon-Ham game on August 29th, and hitting a Home Run in the Rakuten Eagles game on August 18th, which was his 26th birthday.
Yamaguchi looked back on August, saying, "I think it was a month where things went exactly as I hoped." In the game against the Softbank Hawks on August 27, he hit a Home Run that tied the record for the most by a Japanese player in a single season since the move to Zozo Marine Stadium. Then, in the game against Nippon-Ham on August 28, he hit his 25th Home Run of the season, setting a new record for the most by a Japanese player in a single season since the move to Zozo Marine Stadium.
He expressed his joy, saying, 'I worked hard with the goal of surpassing Seiya Inoue, whom I had the opportunity to play alongside, and I am happy that I was able to overtake those senior players among so many big names.'
In August, he became the number one hitter in the Pacific League. I wonder if he will win titles in the future, or if the scenery he sees has changed.
"I didn't really think I would be chosen like this, so I'm happy. I believe that if I can keep this up, those kinds of titles will come into view. I want to make sure this isn't just for a short period, but something I can sustain," he said, tightening his focus.
He expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I want to be particular about the number of RBIs and home runs, and I want to do my best to hit a lot when there are scoring opportunities. I definitely want to achieve 30 home runs."
