The Softbank Hawks issued an intentional walk to Nippon-Ham's Reyes with two outs in the bottom of the 10th extra inning.

The game entered an extra inning with the score tied at 1-1. Tsumori took the mound starting from the 10th inning, and after he retired two batters with a good tempo to face Reyes, Manager Kokubo came out of the dugout to signal an intentional walk. The following batter, Isohata, was struck out, and as the closer he held them to zero runs.

In the same matchup on August 20th, Reyes was also given an intentional walk with two outs in the 11th extra inning. Once again, an intentional walk was issued in a situation with no runner. Manager Kokubo also made a gesture as if engaging in a "silent conversation" with the opponent, who looked toward him in the dugout with a smile.
