Pacific League Marketing Co., Ltd. is holding a giveaway campaign to celebrate the 25-year career of The Lions player Takumi Kuriyama, expressing their heartfelt gratitude to the fans who have continuously shown him their passionate support. The campaign will offer merchandise signed by Kuriyama himself.
On November 24, 2025, Kuriyama announced his retirement from professional baseball at a press conference following contract renewal negotiations, stating that he would retire at the end of the 2026 season. He joined The Lions in 2001 as the fourth overall pick in the draft from Ikuei High School, and became a regular player in his sixth year, 2007.
He went on to play a key role in the team's championship and national title win in 2008, and their consecutive league championships in 2018 and 2019. He won the most hit in 2008 and was selected to the Best Nine four times (2008, 2010, 2011, 2020), continuing to be a successful player for many years with his clutch hitting.
In 2021, Kuriyama became the 54th player in history to achieve 2,000 hit, and together with his teammate Takeya Nakamura he has continued to contribute to the team as the "bones and fangs" of the team. Watch the final moments of "Mr. Leo," who has played his entire 25-year career with The Lions, on Pacific League TV.
