Seibu Lions Takumi Kuriyama outfielder (42) retired in his retirement game, win Rakuten Eagles 4–1. He played starting line-up as the 6th batter and DH, hitting a hit to center field in his fourth at-bat in the 8th inning, finishing the game 4 At Bat-1 hit. A retirement ceremony was held after the game.
Takeya Nakamura infielder (43), who gave him a bouquet, joined the team in the 2001 draft at the same time. He came in as a pinch hitter with one out in the 8th inning and grounded out to shortstop, but in the next hitter, he saw Kuriyama hit to center field.
After the game, he shared his impressions: "Well, really, I was watching while thinking that finally, at last, the retirement game has come. In the 8th inning, with two outs, it was Kuri's turn, and I think Kuri was just focused on getting a hit. I'm glad I was the one who got out. It was a hit in front of the center fielder that was very typical of him, so to speak. I don't think he's fully satisfied with it, but I think it was a very good hit."
During the retirement press conference before the game, Kuriyama described Takeya Nakamura as his 'tsure' (friend). In response, Nakamura said, 'Well, that's true. We are "tsure." He is a friend, but I felt once again today that he is a special presence to me.'
