At the retirement ceremony for Seibu Lions outfielder Takumi Kuriyama, team alumni Hiroyuki Nakajima and Yasuyuki Kataoka appeared along with former Major Leaguer Hideo Nomo, who recorded a total of 201 wins in Japan and the US. The stadium was filled with a stir.

The two are so close that they conduct independent training together, and when Kuriyama achieved his 2,000th career hit in 2021, Mr. Nomo appeared at the award ceremony and the Golden Players Club blazer presentation ceremony. Mr. Nomo offered words of appreciation, saying, "Seeing you grow has become a personal treasure of mine," and added, "I want you to reconsider your retirement." On this day, Kuriyama recorded his 2,152nd career hit in the eighth inning. Mr. Nomo seemed to feel that he is still more than capable of playing as an active player.
