Starting pitcher Chihiro Sumida shutout game Rakuten Eagles lineup, allowing only three hit over nine innings. He held onto the one run scored in the first inning, win with a "Sumida 1" shutout. This was his third shutout game of the season and his ninth win overall.

In the first inning, Nakajima led off with an infield hit to shortstop, but the subsequent batters were shut down, resulting in a runs start. From the second to the sixth inning, they didn't even allow hit. In the seventh inning, Tatsumi led off with a single to left hit, but in the next batter, Muneyama, they lured Tatsumi, the runner on first base, into a pickoff attempt, resulting in stolen base out and preventing a run from scoring.

In the first inning, the offense took the lead when leadoff outfielder Alexander Canario hit a 175 km/h home hitter that landed over the center field wall. Sumida single-handedly held onto that precious one-run lead.
