Softbank Hawks 's starting pitcher, Yu Maeda, gave up a two-run doble to Reyes in the third inning with one out and runners on first and third, which hit the left-center wall fence. He then allowed another RBI single to Nomura with two outs and a runner on second, giving up three runs in total.

This was the first time Maeda runs with a timely hit was since he gave up bases loaded home runs in the first inning of the May 24 game against Nippon-Ham (Mizubo Peipei). It was his first inning in 64 innings. He left the mound in the 5th inning at 7 hit 3 runs. "In the 3rd inning, the height of the breaking ball was too low. The ball dropped higher than where I aimed and got hit by the opponent. I think I was able to fix it after the 4th, but I need to reflect on that," he commented.

Trailing by one run in the bottom of the 8th with no outs bases loaded, Kurihara hit his 33rd home run of the season off Fukushima bases loaded to tie the game, sparing Yu Maeda from the loss. At that point, Kurihara had reached 90 RBI, taking the league lead Home Run and RBI.
