Nippon-Ham Fighters manager Tsuyoshi Shinjo commented on the Kumamoto earthquake after the game.

A moment of silence was observed before the game, and fundraising activities were held at the stadium. The manager said, "All I can say to the victims is, please try your best to get through it. I'm not there, so that's about all I can say."

Manager Shinjo himself lived very close to Hanshin Tigers Expressway, which suffered significant damage during the Hanshin Tigers Earthquake when he was with Hanshin Tigers Tigers. "Having experienced the 9/11 attacks in New York and Hanshin Tigers Earthquake, I lived with the feeling that I would somehow overcome it. I will play games that will give hope to the victims," he quietly vowed.
