Third-place Nippon-Ham suffered walk-off loss to second-place Seibu Lions, widening the gap between Seibu Lions to three games. Tanaka gave up walk-off home run to Nevin in the 10th inning of a 3-3 extra inning.

In the third defense, with the score 3-0 and no outs and a runner on first, center fielder Yoshida misjudged Hiruma's hit, letting it get past him for triple and giving up two runs. In the fourth inning, Nevin's fly ball to right-center field dropped between Yoshida and right fielder Manami for doble, and Watanabe hit doble over the center field fence to tie the game.

Manager Shinjo commented on Yoshida's center field defense, saying, "Even the most skilled players can make mistakes in judging balls hit straight at them like that. I feel really sorry for pitcher. Everyone improves by practicing and gaining experience in judging those kinds of balls. (Regarding the hit to right-center field in the 4th inning) I think he became hesitant because of the earlier misjudgment." He did not blame Yoshida, who is registered as catcher but has been playing center field this season.

The decision to put Yoshida, who boasts exceptional batting talent, in starting line-up was also made with offense as the priority. "Since (the opposing starting pitcher) was Taira, we thought we'd try to score runs with extra-base hits." He reflected on the fact that they couldn't score as many runs as expected with their ultra-offensive lineup.
