A feeling of regret welled up inside Orix Buffaloes 's Espinoza. "I was hoping to be of some help to the people of Venezuela..." The major earthquake struck his hometown on the 24th. "I know that those who died also had families. I went up to mound with those thoughts in mind..." he said, regretting pitch of 6 innings and 2 runs.

On this day and on the 28th, during Rakuten Eagles game (at Hotto Motto Field Kobe), donation boxes for relief funds were set up inside the stadium. Espinoza himself also donated food, water, clothing, and other relief supplies. The foreign right-handed pitcher suffered his third loss of the season, in the game in which his first child, son Kenzo, was attending for the first time. He added, "I want to express my gratitude to the team, the fans, and everyone for supporting and cheering for my country."
