◆Exhibition game: Hanshin Tigers 1-0 Orix Buffaloes (March 21, Kyocera Dome Osaka)
Orix Buffaloes pitcher Ryuhei Sotani (25) has made a great comeback. The fourth-year left-hander, who returned to Japan on the 16th from the WBC, made his first appearance in an open game as the second slider from the fifth inning. He hit the first batter, Fushimi, with Hit by Pitch that curved too much, but after that, he pitched one inning without allowing hit or runs, striking out one strike out, mainly using his fastball which reached a maximum speed of 150 km/h. "First of all, I was relieved to be able to pitch," he nodded.
This was his first time facing hitter since the WBC first round game against Taiwan on the 6th (at Tokyo Dome). Even though he only made one appearance during the tournament, he had been practicing in bullpen, and he seems to have gained valuable experience, saying, "I was able to throw with good balance in terms of form."
Manager Kishida stated, "We'll gradually increase the number of inning from here," indicating that he will have him regain his game sense in farm team games going forward. Although he will not be included in the opening day rotation, he said, "All that's left is to throw more pitches. I want to get ready so I can pitch in the first team as soon as possible," indicating that he will be working hard to get in shape. (Shunta Nanbu)
