He threw 350 pitches on the first day of camp, but returned to bullpen after just one day of rest. He threw all fastballs, swinging his arm repeatedly. "The fatigue you feel when complete game or shutout game doesn't come until you've thrown 200 to 300 pitches in pitching practice. I want to be able to perform well even when my body is tired," he said, as he practices with this in mind.

On the third day of training camp, he has already thrown a total of 560 pitches. "Iron Arm Allen," whose goal for his second year as a free agent is 230 inning, is enjoying a fulfilling training camp.
