Softbank Hawks Hawks manager Hiroki Kokubo strikes the "Brand New" pose, the team's slogan, during the ceremony.

On the 1st, the first day of the Miyazaki training camp, Softbank Hawks manager Hiroki Kokubo conducted an anonymous survey of players in Groups A and B to select leaders for each category. "There were about eight categories, so I asked them to write their names on them. You can stay anonymous, or you can write your own name. I asked them to cooperate with the survey because I just wanted to know what the current power balance is within the team," he explained. Regarding each category, he explained, "It's a bit difficult to go into detail. It would be better to separate them into aptitude and what kind of leader each player is suited to. Currently, it seems like the player's association president is the sole person responsible, but that's a big burden. Is it a leader during the game, a leader in the locker room, or a leader in terms of public relations?"

However, he is undecided as to whether to officially adopt the leadership system, saying, "We haven't decided whether to do it or not." "I think it's important to develop leaders. People tend to think that qualities are something you're born with, but it seems like people are starting to realize that they can actually be created," he said. "The ultimate goal is for players to be able to run the team independently and preserve the culture for generations to come. I don't know how many years it will take to reach that ultimate goal, but I would like to propose that we work on that," he said, discussing his ideal organizational theory.
