Yuki Udagawa

Orix Buffaloes pitcher Yuki Udagawa (27) announced on October 31st his goal of a 'fall of intensive pitching' to return to the active roster. The right-hander had been away from actual competition due to issues with his right elbow since his last appearance in a farm team practice game on July 15th. Included in the roster for the fall camp starting in Kochi on the 1st, he expressed his enthusiasm, saying, 'There is meaning in throwing more than anyone else in the bullpen. I want to steadily bring out a good feeling.'

He underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in March 2023 and was on a developmental contract this season. Although his return to actual game action in the Phoenix League in October was postponed, he has continued pitch practice about twice every three days. 'In my mind, it doesn't feel like rehabilitation anymore,' he said. With the possibility of live BP (live batting practice) being scheduled toward the end of the camp, he looked ahead to taking the mound, stating, 'It would be best if I can do it.'

Manager Kishida ordered a pace increase, stating, 'He is now close to being healthy. He will begin training for a full comeback.' His true form is to dominate with a fastball consistently exceeding 150 kilometers and a fork with a large drop. Next season, he will finally return to being a 'professional baseball player' and show his super relief pitching once again. (Shunta Nambu)
