Orix Buffaloes infielder Kotaro Kobayashi (24) declared on the 15th that he will continue his 'mountain seclusion' this off-season. Last year, he returned to his hometown in Shizuoka in December and entered camp after undergoing more than 10 hours of independent practice per day. The results of his long-term training were reflected in the numbers. He hit a career-high 18 Home Runs, doubling his total from the previous season. 'I will train in the mountains again this year,' he decided immediately.

A grueling schedule from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM with essentially no breaks. What was newly cultivated was 'mental stamina.' He said, 'I've become able to think, "I'll do my best. I can do this," even when things are tough.' Among the three batting categories, he is particularly conscious of Home Runs. 'I won't be able to achieve it unless I set a high goal. If possible, I want to double it, and then double it again,' he said, aiming for a massive total of 36 home runs.

On this day, he participated in autumn training in Maishima, Osaka. 'I also feel the frustration of not reaching 20 home runs. I am not satisfied with the current situation and want to keep leveling up,' he said greedily. His shortstop defense is also steadily improving. He kept his errors to just 5, the fewest since becoming a regular in 2021. Next season will be his eighth year. He remains strictly demanding of himself. (Toru Osada)
