Rakuten Eagles infielder Rui Muneyama (22) opened up about his voluntary training in Kagoshima Prefecture on the 18th. He conducted training in the morning. Muneyayama, who is training alone, said, "I feel like I am growing and changing every day as I work on various things."
In his first season last year, he played in 122 games, including being in the starting starting line-up on the opening day. He reached the required number of at-bats, batting .260 with 27 RBI and three Home Run. He became the first Pacific League rookie in 44 years to be named to the Best short stop list.
This offseason, one of his themes in terms of hitting is powering up the long hits. "I'm looking for areas where I can improve, areas where I can improve, and ways of thinking, and I want to improve not only my batting average but also my long hits. I'm imagining hitting long hits with a better swing."
He also focuses on the angle of the ball to produce long hits. "I think it'll be tough if I don't improve the angle of the ball a bit more. Last year, a lot of the balls I hit were low, so I'm conscious of getting it a bit higher. I'm changing my image a bit, or rather, moving in a way that ultimately results in a higher angle, while still retaining my good points. Changing the way I use the ball will change my form, so if I do that, I think my hits will naturally go up," he said.
