Nippon-Ham' first-round draft pick, pitcher Jay Okawa (22) of Meiji University, participated in the rookie joint voluntary training held at the team's second-division facility in Kamagaya, Chiba, on the 15th, and entered bullpen for the first time.

The second day of the third cool of the rookie joint independent training. He threw 20 pitches with catcher standing on the indoor bullpen and said, "I think it's a plus point that I've been able to stand on the bullpen without any physical inconvenience so far. I only thought about standing like that rather than the quality of the ball itself, so it was good in that aspect," he said, looking back on his first pitch in about a month.

When the first-round draft pick right-hander entered bullpen, he became the center of attention, with fellow draft picks Fukushima, Kuroyanagi, and last year's first-round draft pick Shibata standing behind catcher to observe the ball's trajectory. "It was more fun than nerve-wracking," he said, but there were also times when the ball slipped out of his sight. "The timing was a little off, so I guess if the timing isn't right, it's going to turn out like that. I lost my balance when I stood up and shifted my weight, so I knew this wasn't good, but I just threw it anyway, and it ended up being a wild pitch," he said, carefully analyzing the cause. "My strength is the hop component, and rather than focusing on an angle, I'm aiming for a ball that pushes up from below," he said, as he pursues the quality of the fastball he delivers from his 180cm height.

Fukushima, who was watching the pitch, seemed to admire the ball muscles, saying, "It was amazing, the form and the form are insanely beautiful," and he was curious about pitch, the same right-hander in the same grade. Coach pitcher of the Urano 2nd team, who also watched pitch, observed the pitch for the first time and said, "It was great, I know my ability, so I want you to continue to develop your strengths."
