On the 2nd, Lotte manager Saburo expressed his support for pitcher Atsuki Taneichi who has expressed his desire to try his hand at the majors in the future, and requested that he "achieve outstanding results."
At a press conference held after contract renewal negotiations on December 24th of last year, Taneichi revealed his desire to challenge the majors in the future. Manager Saburo said, "I think it's a good idea. I think he should go, and I would like to encourage him. But I would like him to achieve outstanding results. If that happens, I would be happy to support him. I would really like him to achieve outstanding numbers."
Last season, Taneichi had 9 wins and 8 losses in 24 games ERA 2.63. He was selected as a member of Samurai Japan for the WBC to be held in March.
