The official Pacific League TV YouTube channel is currently releasing a second collaboration video with Furuta no Hoshiki (Furuta Atsuya Official Channel). This second collaboration video follows on from the overwhelming response to the collaboration video released in May of this year. Following on from the previous video, this time titled "Fine Play Review Committee," the video uses footage of Pacific League from the 2025 season to rigorously review whether plays generally considered fine plays are truly fine plays in the eyes of defense masters.

Each of the five "councillors" will rate each play on a scale of 0 to 3, and the total score will determine whether the play is a "Not Fine Play" (0 to 8 points), a "Fine Play" (9 to 11 points), or a "Super Fine Play" (12 to 15 points). In the base running section, a play by Fukuoka Softbank player Downs was the only one to be recognized as a "Super Fine Play." In relation to that play, Atsuya Furuta gave an explanation about head sliding during touch plays.

◇ ◇ ◇

The play in question occurred on July 5th, in the bottom of the fourth inning, between Fukuoka Softbank and the Saitama Seibu Lions, with no outs and no runner on base. Downs hit the fourth pitch from starting pitcher Tatsuya Imai to left-center field and aimed for second base. center fielder Manaya Nishikawa returned the ball and the batter was initially called out, but the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks requested a call for a bunt. A replay review revealed that Downs had touched the base with his right hand while avoiding a touch, and the call was overturned to safe.

His ninja-like head slide earned him a total of 12 points. Okada Yukifumi also praised the high level of physical ability that is unique to foreign players, saying, "First of all, it's the attitude of going for the second (second base) after one hit. And then there's the physical ability. I don't think Japanese players can do that."

Furthermore, Furuta pointed out that the trend in head sliding since the introduction of the request system is "recently it's like getting on the board with your chest up," pointing out the movement of dodging the touch and aiming for the base with one hand. He also commented on defense player's movement, saying, "If you try to touch the arm, it will end up like this play (it will be avoided), so it's probably better to touch the body."

After the recording, Furuta said with a smile, "The project involves taking a critical look at what at first glance appears to be a fine play to see if it really is a fine play, and this time we had some young people join us among the veterans. The way we see things is quite different from the young people, so it was very interesting and educational, and it was fun."

He then appealed to viewers, saying, "We have discerning eyes, so we judge whether a play was on the edge or whether there was a little leeway, and even whether the player actually had leeway but is pretending not to (laughs). I think it would be even more interesting if fans would watch with that same critical eye!"

The second collaboration video between the official Pacific League TV YouTube channel and Furuta no Hoshikei [Atsuya Furuta Official Channel] has been released on each channel, with a total of eight videos.
