On the 6th, Rakuten announced that player Fumiya Kurokawa had renewed his contract.
Kurokawa commented through the team, "I started this season with enthusiasm, thinking of it as 'the last chance of baseball career,' but I got injured during training camp, which made me feel anxious and a lot of different emotions welled up inside me. Despite that, I was able to do what I needed to do, and I think I was able to express what I wanted to do in my at-bats after being promoted to the first team." He added, "I often batted before Voit and Asamura, so I think it was good that I was able to maintain a high on-base percentage and batting average in scoring batting order, which I was particularly conscious of."
Looking ahead to next season, he said enthusiastically, "My goal next season is to continue playing in games for the entire year. During the off-season, I would like to build up a physique that will allow me to fight strong all year round. I will do my best next season to be able to hit when I am needed."
Kurokawa played in 83 games this season, his sixth as a professional, and although he did not reach the required number of at-bats, he posted career-highs of a batting average of .299, four Home Run, and 33 RBI, and also showed his competitive spirit with a batting average of .344 in scoring position.
