◆ Pacific League: Orix Buffaloes 0-2 Seibu Lions (8th, Kyocera Dome)

Seibu Lions' fifth-year left-handed pitcher Shinya Sugai will start the game against the Orix Buffaloes on the 9th (Hotto Motto Field).

Although he recorded two wins early this spring, he had been away from actual competition due to ongoing poor physical condition, making this his first top-team appearance since the game against Lotte on May 20th (at Omiya Prefectural Stadium). During his absence, the team celebrated its first-ever Interleague title, and he spent a frustrating period on the sidelines, reflecting, 'It was very disappointing for me; I was just watching. It was extremely painful not being able to pitch despite having done so in April and May.'

With about one month left in the season and the possibility of their first league title since 2019 still alive, this is a chance for him to prove himself. 'I believe that being allowed to pitch in the midst of such a championship race is a very important game for me, so I want to pitch while keeping that in mind.' On the first-team mound he has longed for, he will deliver a brilliant performance to clear away all the feelings he has built up.
