The Orix Buffaloes announced on the 3rd that outfielder Ryu Sugisawa underwent arthroscopic triangular fibrocartilage complex suture surgery on his right wrist at a hospital in Kobe City on the 2nd. After a few days of rest at home, he will proceed with rehabilitation.

Joining from Tohoku Fukushi University as a 4th round draft pick in 2022, he made his first-ever Opening Day roster in this, his fourth professional season. In the early stages, he was on the verge of a breakthrough, batting .385 over six games, but after a Hit by Pitch in a game against the Seibu Lions (Kyocera Dome Osaka) on April 14, he was sidelined with a diagnosed fracture of the distal end of the right ulna. After being promoted back to the first team on June 10, he hit his first professional home run in his 69th career plate appearance during a game against the Seibu Lions (Kyocera Dome Osaka) on the 21st of that month. Although he produced results with a .303 batting average, 2 Home Run, and 7 RBI over 30 games, he was removed from the active roster for the second time on August 10.

His last appearance was in a minor league game on the following day, the 11th. Unable to play as he had hoped, he consulted with the club and determined that aiming for the start of next season was the best course of action. In addition to aces Miyagi and Yamashita, fielders such as Tomoya Mori and Yuma Tongu have also been sidelined for long periods due to surgery. He aims for a complete comeback in his fifth professional year.
