Rakuten Eagles suffered another crushing defeat, managing only four hit and one run, following their three-hit shutout game loss the previous day. This marks their eighth consecutive loss against Seibu Lions, putting them 26 games behind with 26 games remaining in the season. Their winning percentage is now guaranteed to be below .500.

After the game, Manager Masato Yoshii commented on the batting lineup, saying, "We talked about aiming for (Takeuchi's) relatively easy pitches, but just like yesterday, we couldn't capitalize on them. I think it's a technical issue. I also feel we need to consider different tactical approaches." Regarding starting pitcher Takayuki Kishi, who took his fourth loss after giving up three runs in five innings, he evaluated, "He got hit in just one inning (the fifth, where he gave up three runs), but he was throwing very strong pitches, and I think it was the usual Kishi."

The Rakuten Eagles will play a two-game series against the Orix Buffaloes in Akita and Morioka starting September 1st.
