Seibu Lions outfielder Shinya Hasegawa (24) was in the starting line-up, batting third and playing center field. Leading off the eighth inning with a 3-1, two-run lead, he hit his 10th solo home run of the season into the left-field stands. In this inning, the turn at bat reached Kuriyama, the sixth batter in the lineup and the fourth batter of the inning.
