Seibu Lions outfielder Alexander Canario (26) was in the starting line-up, batting first and playing right field. In the fifth inning, after taking a one-run lead on a go-ahead home run by the lead-off batter Watanabe, and with runners on second and third and no outs, he hit a two-run single to center field off Rakuten Eagles starter Kishi.

In the retirement game of outfielder Takumi Kuriyama (42), who was in the starting line-up batting 6th as the DH, the team took a three-run lead in the fifth inning, providing run support for the starter Takeuchi, who continued to pitch well in a game they couldn't afford to lose.
