Pacific League: Nippon-Ham 5, Lotte 4 (30th, ES CON FIELD)
Nippon-Ham swept Lotte in a three-game series with their third consecutive comeback victory. With their fourth straight win, they moved to a season-high 14 games over .500. In the seventh inning with the score tied and a runner on second with one out, Mizutani hit the game-winning RBI single to center.
After the game, Manager Shinjo spoke about Kotaro Kiyomiya, who hit a game-tying 16th two-run home run following a defensive error. 'It happens every time, doesn't it? I feel bad for Arihara. Both corners (first and third base). I feel sorry, but I start getting this strange feeling like, "He’s going to hit one again today" (laughs). It’s not good, though. He needs to hit without making errors. I wonder what it is. Maybe his level of determination changes?' Although Kiyomiya has a league-worst 13 errors this season, he was teased about his frequent habit of making up for mistakes with his bat. Kiyomiya himself commented, 'I was solely focused on making up for the error in the first inning.'
In the game against the Softbank Hawks on the 19th (at Es Con), he committed an error and a base running mistake, but delivered a walk-off hit in the 10th extra inning. The manager said, 'Since Kiyomiya had an error and a base running mistake, I believed he would come through for us.' Before last season's CS, it was also said of him that 'if he makes an error, he'll hit,' and on this day as well, he made up for his mistakes with his bat.
