The Rakuten Eagles suffered their 17th shutout loss of the season and their seventh consecutive loss against the Seibu Lions. They were the fastest in both leagues to reach 70 losses, and their deficit swelled to a season-worst 25 games below .500.

The offense failed to support Hayakawa, who started the game and pitched eight runs hit, allowing only three hits. They managed only three scattered hit against Seibu Lions left-handed starting pitcher Sumida and couldn't even reach second base. On the 22nd, they were also closer to just three hit over eight innings by Sumida and lost without scoring, but they couldn't get revenge.

After the game, Coach Yoshii said, "Based on our reflections from the previous game (on the 22nd), we changed our strategy to have each player focus on a specific pitch. However, no one was able to hit the ball they were aiming for cleanly with first baseman swing. I felt that we need to improve that precision."
