The lineup attempted a comeback, highlighted by outfielder Koki Yamaguchi hitting his 25th solo home run—the first by a Japanese player for the club in 28 years since Kiyoshi Hatsushiba in 1998—but they ultimately fell short.

Mouri faltered in the second inning. He gave the leadoff scorer Makihara a Hit by Pitch and Hirose Walk to runners on first and second with no outs, allowing Shoji to give up a doble over center. Then, with a two-run single by Kurihara, the team made it four runs. He recovered after that, but was unable to win his fourth game. The left-handed second-round pick said, "Except for the second inning, I think I managed to hold on while creating a pinch draft pick in the second inning, but the fourth Hit by Pitch got involved and the second inning led to runs, and I hit for extra power after giving up a runner to get the ball first. The biggest mistake is to let the lower ranks and then advance the lineup."

Yamaguchi hit his 25th solo home run in the third inning, marking his second consecutive game with a homer, to help the lineup close the gap, but there was no repeat of the previous night's comeback victory.
