Second-place Seibu Lions, who were on a four-game winning streak, suffered a crushing defeat against third-place Nippon-Ham, ending their winning streak at four.

Starting pitcher Yutaro Watanabe pitched six innings with eight strike outs and 10 hits, leaving the mound with a season-high nine runs (eight earned) and taking his seventh loss. A win at home remained elusive, even in his 10th appearance.

In the third inning, with one out and runners on first and third, Kiyomiya gave up a go-ahead RBI single to center. In the fourth inning, with the team tying the game, Yoshida hit a three-run triple to sweep to right-center with one bases loaded out and a runner on first. In the sixth inning, with no outs and a runner on first, Otsuka hit his fifth two-run homer, and with two outs and runners on first and third, Kiyomiya hit his fifteenth three-run homer, giving up a concentrated hit before being pulled after this inning.

The lineup was silenced by the opposing starter, Tatsu, recording only three hits, with their only run coming from a solo Home Run by Canario.
