◆ Pacific League: Seibu Lions vs. Nippon-Ham (26th, Belluna Dome)
Seibu Lions 's starting pitcher, Yutaro Watanabe, pitched six innings, strike out eight, giving up ten hit, and allowing a season-high nine runs (eight earned) before being pulled from the game. He was unable to secure a win at home in his tenth start.
In the first inning, he started by swinging and missing both Kiyomiya and Reyes to struck out. He also put a runner on first with no outs in the second inning but declined the next runner.
However, in the third inning, partly due to a teammate's error, he allowed an opening RBI single to center field to Kiyomiya after there was one out and runners on first and third. In the fourth inning, after his teammates had tied the score, he gave up a three-run RBI triple to Yoshida that split right-center field for a sweep, after there was one out and the bases loaded.
In the fifth inning, he retired the side in order once again. However, in the sixth, he gave up a two-run home run (his fifth) to Otsuka with a runner on first and no outs, and later a three-run homer (his 15th) to Kiyomiya with two outs and runners on first and third. After surrendering a flurry of hits, he was pulled from the game at the end of the inning.
Pitcher Wataru Matsumoto took the mound as the second pitcher from the seventh inning.
