◆ Pacific League: Rakuten Eagles 1-3 Seibu Lions (11 extra inning) (23rd, Rakuten Eagles Mobile Saikyo Park Miyagi)
Seibu Lions won in extra inning innings, achieving their first three-game sweep against the same opponent since the interleague series ended.
Seibu Lions Starter Sou Sato (Sō) pitcher pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing 4 hit and 1 runs. He was pulled from the game with the score tied and didn’t earn the win, but in his second “replacement start” of the season, he solidly fulfilled his role as a starter.
Starting pitcher Natsuki Takeuchi was forced to withdraw due to back stiffness, making this his second "substitute appearance" of the season, the first being against Nippon-Ham on May 16th (at Escon Stadium). He closer the first three batters in order in the first inning. However, in the second inning, he gave up a solo home run to McCusker, the leadoff Home Run, which landed in the right-field stands, allowing the opposing team to score first.
From then on, he pitched tenaciously despite carrying the runner. In the sixth inning, with two outs and a runner on first, he was taken out of the game as McCuscar, but Kuroki, who had moved up to mound as the second pitcher, swung McCusker into a swinging struck out and got through the runs.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, with two outs and the bases loaded, trailing by one run, the batting lineup tied the game when designated hitter Yuto Koga drew Walk, forcing in the winning run.
In the 11th inning extra inning, rookie Kojima hit a go-ahead two-run homer over the right field fence off Nishigaki.
