Rakuten Eagles announced on the 23rd that infielder Luke Voit underwent "Internal Brace and joint tendon attachment repair surgery for a torn ulnar collateral ligament and joint tendon attachment in his right elbow" in the United States on the 19th. He will aim to return to play depending on his recovery progress.

In his second year with the team this season, he played in 20 games but had a batting average of .119 with 0 Home Run, a major slump. On May 18, he was removed from the active roster due to poor physical condition, and although he later returned to action in the minor leagues, he was again placed on the injured player roster.

It is expected to take more than three months for him to recover from the surgery, making a return this season highly unlikely.
