Nippon-Ham pitcher Hiromi Ito struggled in the third inning, giving up seven hit five runs (four earned) in three innings, suffering his eighth loss of the season. He has now gone eight consecutive starts without a win and is on a five-game losing streak. The team has lost all of Ito's last eight starts.

In the second inning, after consecutive hits and Walk loaded the bases with one bases loaded, Umino hit sacrifice fly to center field, giving up the first run.

In the third inning, immediately after Reyes' home run tied the game, consecutive hits by Masaki and Shuto put doble on first and second with no outs, before Kondo hit a two-run double to right-center field. After one out, Yanagida hit a timely doble the right-field line, and with the help of a fielding error, Kawase hit sacrifice fly with one out and runners on first and third, giving up the fourth run of the inning.

Ito expressed his frustration, saying, "I got caught before I could do anything. I saw the ball I needed to see and hit the ball I needed to hit without making a mistake. I was hit hard, so I'll switch gears and do my best again."

Manager Shinjo expressed his regret, saying, "More (Reyes) hit home run run and tied the game, so I really wanted them to hold on from there."
