Rakuten Eagles infielder Rui Muneyama (23) started starting line-up as the number 9 hitter and shortstop, and showcased his strong arm in the field during the second defense.

In the second bounce, with no outs and a runner on first, Nomura doble that hit the left wall. Muneyama cut off the throw from left fielder McCusker, who fielded the rebound, and immediately ran home. The ball went straight into Ota's mitt closer bouncing, catching Yoshida, who was trying to score from first base. Urena then held the opposing team runs in the ensuing jam.
