Rakuten Eagles Eagles manager Masato Yoshii has indicated that he plans to include starter who are not scheduled to pitch in games on road trips.
Previously starter who were not pitching in away games would stay at home to adjust, but from now on they will generally travel with the main team. The manager explained the reasoning, saying, "starter were being left out of the team's plans too much. As a manager, the only time I see them is during games, so I thought that wasn't good. I decided that they would travel with us whenever possible."
It's not just about being able to check on their condition up close. By having starter spend time in the same environment as the fielder and reliever pitchers who are working hard every day, it becomes easier to foster a sense of unity within the team. "There are times when it's better for them to be together. There may also be advantages to leaving them behind, but I think it's better to bring them along, so I'm going to try that in the second half of the season." This new approach will help build a stronger team.
