Seibu Lions 's second-round draft pick, pitcher Hakua Iwaki, made his All-Star debut. Playing in his hometown of Toyama, he allowed three hit in one inning but kept runs.

He entered the mound as the sixth pitcher from the ninth inning with the team trailing by one run.
